eye seas
eye seas is a series of works that uses the ocean as a metaphor for a force that does not remember, a body that moves continuously forward, washing away all evidence of what came before. The work reflects on the internal struggles associated with personal memory, examining the tension between the desire to let go and the persistent urge to hold on.
Working with Polaroid emulsions paired with decoupage and foil, the artist approaches photography as a mutable and unstable medium. By “giving the images a bath,” the emulsions are lifted from their original supports, submerged in water, and intentionally distorted. Through this process, images fragment and reform, mirroring the way memories shift and resurface over time.
The surface of each work bears traces of erosion and intervention. Eyes emerge through tearing and rupture as they are revealed through damage, echoing how certain memories resist disappearance despite conscious attempts to forget. Existing between concealment and exposure, the works inhabit a perpetual state of becoming, where remembering and forgetting occur simultaneously.
